Moisturised during holiday travels
We are all aware of the excitement which comes when planning a trip, but as skincare enthusiasts we are also aware of how traveling can wreak havoc on the skin.
From dry aeroplane air to changing routine at different destinations can lead to frequent breakouts and make the skin dry and dull. Fortunately, this blog has you covered for all eventualities.
But first things first. Our skin loves moisture, and traveling can severely deplete it. So, whether you are flying at 35,000 feet or going cruising to the Bahamas, keep a water bottle close by for maintaining a happy skin.
Here are some time-tested hydration hacks to keep your skin glowing and fresh and allow you to arrive in style.
Pre-travel preparation
Would you start on a road trip without checking the vehicle’s oil and other essentials? If the answer is no, the same criteria should also apply when embarking by any other mode of transport.
- Start by increasing your water intake a few days before your intended date of departure. Your skin will be grateful for this.
- Use a hydration mask or a rich cream in the days leading to your trip in order to give the skin a pep talk before the journey.
- Give the face a soft scrub to rid the skin of the dead cells, but remember to exfoliate in a gentle manner.
- Test all the products you are planning to take with you on the trip. The last thing you want is a bad side reaction in a new place.
Keeping the skin hydrated on the go
Travel can be particularly harsh on the hydration levels of the skin. The key is to carry hydrating products that are convenient and easy to use when on the road.
- Hydrating Sprays: Carry a face spray or hydrating mist which is enriched with hyaluronic acid or glycerin to help replenish moisture throughout the trip.
- Travel-sized moisturizer: Opt for rich moisturizers packed in a compact travel kit that can come in handy for long-lasting hydration, without the greasey feeling. Travel-sized products are easy to carry and use during a journey.
Hydrating from within
While external hydration is necessary, it does not provide all the moisture that your skin may need. This is why hydration from within is important as well to keep the skin supple while traveling.
Consider the following:
- Aim to drink at least eight glasses of water when traveling or even more when in a dry and hot destination.
- Include water-rich fruits and vegetables in your diet like oranges, cucumbers and watermelons to keep the body hydrated.
- Take supplements like Vitamin C and E to support health and promote hydration from within.
- A quick DIY hydrating face mask can help restore moisture and soothe tired skin, especially after a long flight.
- If you are especially prone to dehydration in a hot climate, try a sports drink which contains electrolytes like Gatorade. Also swap your beer with a glass of water every now and then.
